Briardene Guest House provides bed & breakfast accommodation in Windermere, the Lake District. Windermere is ideally located as a centre for either touring the enchanting scenery of the Lake District or for a brief stay to give a taste of the area whilst touring Britain.

It is approximately 25 mins drive from Junction 36 off the M6 motorway and has an excellent branch-line connection from the West coast main rail line.

Windermere can be reached by train from the main London-Glasgow Intercity line. This is as far into the Lakes as the rail service goes for Wordsworth himself strongly opposed its development any further.

We are centrally located in Windermere, close to shops, restaurants and public houses. We are also only 10 mins from the railway & bus station. Bowness is only a 20 minute walk away and is situated on the shores of Lake Windermere. This is the largest of the lakes and stretches for ten miles from Lakeside in the south to Waterhead in the north.

The town of Windermere grew around the railway station. The village was originally called Birthwaites, but the railway company decided to call the station after the lake.

Windermere is central for a wide range of activities. For keen cyclists and ramblers alike there is a network of cycle paths, bridleways and forest trails. As well as the countless fells to be conquered there are several famous walks both for the novice and expert which provide panoramic views of the beautiful Lake District.

One of the most popular walks from Windermere is the walk to Orrest Head. The view from the top above Windermere was the one that inspired A. Wainwright, author of the famous guide books in the 1930′s, to explore the Lake District fells. For more leisure walks, there are numerous lakeside paths. The lakes also provide excellent water activities from a gentle sail to a speed boat ride on Windermere.
